Chapter Four · Heritage
A workshop that has kept moving since 1986.
- 1986
We are the number one Trail Dozer manufacturer in the world. Sutter Equipment has sold hundreds of Trail Dozers, starting with the Sweco models we designed and had manufactured for us, and now the Sutter models we manufacture at our Nevada plant — a claim no other company can make.
- 1991
It all started in 1986, when previous owner John Mueller created the Pacific Crawler trail maintenance machine. After meeting with the U.S. Forest Service, the 450 Trail Dozer came into being in 1991. The line evolved through the Sweco 450, the 480, and in 2008 was re-branded to the SUTTER 480 when manufacturing was brought in-house.
- 2010
In mid-2010 the Sutter 500 Trail Dozer was introduced with a Tier 3 EPA-compliant engine. That same year, operations relocated to Mound House, Nevada — six miles east of Carson City. In 2018 the Sutter 500 was upgraded to a Tier 4 final Kohler engine with standard 100,000 in-lb torque hubs.
